Artist
Melchior Schramm (born before 1553 in Münsterberg, Duchy of Münsterberg; died 6. September 1619 in Offenburg, Swabian Imperial Circle) was a German organist and composer. Schramm, who had come to Prague as a child, became a singing boy in 1553 in the court chapel of Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol. With his farm he came to Innsbruck, where he was trained in Ferdinand's newly founded boys' singing school. From 1569 to 1571 he was taught by the Innsbruck court organist Servatius Rorif, after which he was an organist for two years at the newly built pen church of the Damenstift in Hall. In 1574, Schramm was appointed organist and court chapel master at the court Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, where he rebuilt and managed the court chapel at the young court under Count Charles II of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. He probably handed over the management of the court chapel to Narcissus Zängel, a student of Orlando di Lassos, around 1596 and subsequently took over the duties of a court organist. In 1605, he was appointed as a city organist in the Free Imperial City of Offenburg in Baden. He lived here until his death in 1619.
