Melankolia is comprised of many ideas and influences, but only one member. Mike O'Brien was born in 1980, and began taking piano lessons at the age of 8. After completing all levels of the piano teaching offered, Mike struck out on his own, creating original music, as opposed to playing other people's music. In mid-2009, Mike started his solo project Melankolia. In October 2009, he joined with Nokturnicon, a US based black metal band, handling keyboard duties.
