Mekhis Qandakeba (მეხის ქანდაკება in Georgian, Thunder's Statue in English) were Georgian rock band established in 1992 and disbanded in 1996. Original lineup of the band consisted of Zura Nafetvaridze (vocal), Leon Manveli (guitar), Papuna Saralidze (keyboards), Zura Barkhudanashvili (bass) and Gela maisuradze (drums). After Gela’s departure to Moscow in 1994, Giorgi Khucishvili replaced him. Mevlud Maisuradze also played on a bass for a while. All of them were from Telavi, Georgia. The band managed to record two studio albums, one in 1993 and other in 1996. Soon after creating, they gain high local popularity. In 1993, Their first show at Telavi Drama Theatre had got great resonance. Since then they appeared at number of rock shows and gala festivals. The band had to work in very bad conditions: civil wars, fast changes of government, with no electricity, no sponsor and so on, which had influenced lyrics of some songs (e.g. Ugunurta Agtqma). The members had to sell things from home for purchasing instruments they needed. As a result, on the spring of 1996, after releasing their second studio album, they disbanded.
