Artist
McKenzie Stubbert is a composer living in Oregon. His work poses a sort of double reflection. A dialogue between seemingly incongruous elements and styles. Playful in it’s experimentation with traditional modes and yet always remaining accessible. His classical sensibilities are often accompanied by a contemporary aesthetic. An artist of counterpoint both sonically and emotionally, Stubbert's compositions expresses a joyfulness, full but sober and halting, a hopeful sadness which never fall to despair. Each austere characteristic or mood softened by the presence of its opposite. His work thus far includes That Is To Say… (2006), a collection of Tangos, delusions, and interludes; a project recorded in his house with producer/engineer Ashley Stubbert. Something akin to a film soundtrack without a film to go with it. In 2007, he premiered a more traditional work with Three to Five Separate Waves, a work for string quintet that was part of an art exhibit featuring the work of Portland, Oregon artist Spencer Reynolds. Additionally, Stubbert continues to work on various film, television, and advertising projects. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
