Maya Fridman (born November 7, 1989 in Moscow) is a Russian cellist, singer and composer. She lives and works in the Netherlands. She has been playing the cello since she was six. Her search for new music and experiments took her to Amsterdam, where she graduated cum laude from the Conservatory in 2016. Fridman is a master cello player who can do everything and plays everything: classical, pop, (gothic) rock, folk, jazz, new music or flamenco. Thanks to her versatility and fiery, emotional way of playing, there are more and more composers who wrote pieces especially for her. Fridman plays in various ensembles and collaborations, including a duo with Gagi Petrovic (cello, live electronics and two voices), jazz trio Aeon Trio, various projects with singer-songwriter Jyoti Verhoeff and as a guest musician with the German folk band Faun. Fridman has collaborated with various musicians and companies, including Maarten van Veen, Merel Vercammen, Faun, Farid Sheek, Asko❘Schönberg and the Noord Nederlands Toneel. She has performed at various major stages and festivals, including the Royal Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, TivoliVredenburg, Concertgebouw De Vereeniging, Into The Great Wide Open and the Grachtenfestival. In the 2020-2021 season Maya Fridman was 'Artist in Residence' at TivoliVredenburg. Since 2020 Maya Fridman has formed Trio Dareyn with Emine Bostanci (kemenche) and Jacobus Thiele (percussion).
