Artist
Mauro D'Alay (also: D'Alai), also called Maurini ( born around 1687 in Parma ; died February 11, 1757 there) was an Italian violinist and composer of the late Baroque. Little is known of the career of Mauro D'Alay (Maurino), except that he was in the service of the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Steccata of Parma in the periods 1712-26 and 1730-39. He accompanied Princess Elisabetta Farnese to Madrid in 1714 on the occasion of her marriage to the Spanish King Philip V , where he stayed for a long time. He also undertook further journeys outside of Italy, above all to London (1726-1728), where, according to Charles Burney, he performed his cantata Amo Deliso e ver with the singer Faustina Bordoni . In Germany he was in contact with Johann Adolf Hasse. As the Queen of Spain's favorite violinist, he amassed a considerable fortune. In his will, he bequeathed it, much to the annoyance of his relatives, two-thirds of the Society Ordine Constantiniano di San Giorgio of Parma, which had made him one of their commanders after his return from Spain.
