Matty and Mossy was a Houston-based quartet that existed in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band's music has been described as "abstract pop," blending folk and psych elements. The band was fronted by Jana Hunter, who would later become a major fixture of the New Weird America scene. She was joined by Matt Frey, Heath Flagtvedt, and her brother John Hunter. The quartet released the album Fraimer's Hamey on Fleece Records in 2001, only to break up shortly thereafter. The album received a fair amount of college radio airplay, topping the charts at Rice University's KTRU and Pomona College's KSPC. Music from the album was also featured in Andrew Bujalksi's films Funny Ha Ha (2002) and Mutual Apperciation. Presently, Jana Hunter is performing with the band Jracula in addition to producing her own solo material. John Hunter and Heath Flagtvedt have been performing in the band The Inoculist. Matt Frey played drums for Swarm of Angels, the band that is credited spawning Indian Jewelry. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
