Sometimes life will bend your will and break your heart- but when the ashes scatter, what’s left is the brightest star. “This new record is about meeting yourself and reclaiming who you are,” says Moon. He began shaping the words and sounds of his upcoming release, “I Am The Wind”, while living in the rural, mountain town of Cusco, Peru. Cusco is surrounded by Incan ruins and hiking trails that lead to the mouths of ancient temples. He spent many of his days hiking through these hills- where the seeds of Moon’s fifth studio album began to blossom. “There are many references to nature in this collection of songs. It’s the undeniable influence of living in such a beautiful place.” In this rural setting, Moon wrote one of his most inspired songs, and the album’s title track, “I Am The Wind." You can hear a sense of heartfelt longing in the lyrics: “As I’m falling I pretend I am the wind/And I’m calling you back to me again.” Around this time, Moon began playing the Weissenborn lap steel guitar. Made popular by musical icons David Lindley, and Ben Harper, the Weissenborn sits on the lap and is played with a steel slide. It has a wide-open, penetrating sound, as evident in Moon’s new song, “Rivers and Mountainsides.” “With age I’ve become really motivated to teach myself new things, one of which is lap steel guitar.
