Before leaving the shadow of NYC and moving to Sydney Australia, Matt Sztyk spent several years on the road alongside bands such as Boys Like Girls, The Starting Line, Cartel, Copeland, Mae, The Spill Canvas, and Meg and Dia, among others. He has recorded and self-released many EPs and singles with his former band, New Atlantic—followed by the release of a full-length album in the States and Japan through Eyeball Records and Fabtone Records. Residing in Sydney for the past two years, playing rock and roll shows from Melbourne up to Tamworth, and writing songs that the NJ native says, ‘pay tribute to his roots', The Drift was born. Working alongside like minded friends, they went into the studio and captured the raw steady sound of their live show. From the moment you press play on their self titled EP, The Drift accosts your soul with a sound that brings a nostalgia of road trips with the windows down, a type of American dream that will eventually land you at the shore where everything looks like a Beach Boys record cover. The first single, ‘Fizzy’ showcases a rustic voice with translucent intensions, and lyrics that breathe honesty and remain the questions long after the play button. The Drift is rock and roll that listeners of The Gaslight Anthem, The Wallflowers, The Ramones, and Bruce Springsteen will be listening to for days.
