Former bandmates in the band they founded together, Weezer, Matt sharp and Rivers Cuomo reunited on february 12, 2004 to play four songs onstage. They played two songs from Weezer's "Blue album", "say it 'aint so" and "Undone". Sharp and Cuomo got together and came up with "15 or 16 good song ideas". Despite the announcment of the record they were planning on making together, Sharp wrote on his website that their "special brand of disfunctionality" prevented them from ever finishing the project.
