Hi. My name is Matt and I’m a composer from the UK. I started playing piano when I was 11 years old. When I was 13 years old I learned to play ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the film Titanic. This proved to be a costly error as I was asked to play it at every school concert, assembly and talent show going. After playing it for the 4,332nd time, I wondered if music was all that great. Thankfully I persisted. I later took on guitar and drums and fumbled my way around numerous rock and blues ensembles including being in a band called ‘Wasted’ which performed the most epic Metallica medley known to the history of man. The gig where the Metallica medley was played was probably my most successful in terms of crowd size whilst being in a rock band. Even my seven year stint as guitarist for rock band Le Monnier failed to equal the awesomeness of that one night. Still, anyone who’s cool was once in a metal band right?? Film Music The first film composer I listened to was Michael Kamen who had previously worked with Metallica on their S&M album. After he died I started listening to his work and got into the whole film music scene quite a bit. I’d say I’m influenced by composers such as David Arnold, Thomas Newman and inevitably (although with some reluctance), Hans Zimmer. My film music has been featured in films in the UK, USA and Australia ranging from dramas like ‘Switching Places’ to comedies such as ‘The Shake Off’. Solo Work I’ve been writing pieces of music for many years now,
