about

Matt Coleman began his musical career singing church hymns around the family piano. It wasn’t until college that Matt picked up the guitar...and his pen. Developing his soulful, laid back style, he frequented Inland Empire open mics, and met his first band mate, Marquis Howell. Joe Perez (also of Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys) joined on drums, and completed the upbeat Inland Empire institution known as Hobo Jazz. Concurrently, Matt continued to develop his songwriting skills as a solo singer, culminating in the 2007 production of his first solo album titled "Grin of Livin’." An artist with a relentless performance schedule, he enjoys residency at two Redlands, Ca., bars: Vault Martini Bar, and Time in a Bottle. He hosts and performs in Singer/Songwriter Showcases on a regular basis at both. Likened to Jack Johnson and James Taylor, Matt Coleman has an eclectic, jazzy edge on his debut. His current projects and upcoming album are what he describes as “swampier” and “muddy.” User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
