Matthew Garrett Champion, simply known by his stage name Matt Champion, is a American rapper who is best known as being a member of the American alternative boy band BROCKHAMPTON. He moved to Los Angeles, California to become a member of BROCKHAMPTON and has released solo tracks such as "Burn," "El Dorado," "Fangs," and "You're Too Cool for Me." Matt Champion would accompany his fellow bandmates in moving into a base location in San Marcos, Texas, in 2015, for the purpose of recording and mixing music. This choice in location was primarily based around fellow member JOBA who was attending college at Texas State University. Champion featured on the first three singles the group released under the BROCKHAMPTON moniker; those being Bet I, Hero, and Dirt. The latter track would end up being linked to a contest hosted by VFILES, with the winner being awarded a professionally directed music video. The group won, and Dirt would receive a music video directed by Tyler Mitchell, while the actual single was debuted on Apple's Beats 1 radio station and was released through independent record label Fool's Gold Records. Following the release of these singles, the group would release their debut mixtape, All-American Trash, on March 30, 2016. Champion would be featured on multiple songs throughout the album, such as his appearances on Palace and Home.
