Maskačkas Spēlmaņi is Latvian folklore band from Rīga, Latvia. Maskačka is a part of Rīga, just to the East side from the Central bazaar, on the bank of the biggest river of Latvia - Daugava. It is a place of their meetings, that's why they call themselves Maskačkas Spēlmaņi - Maskačka's Musicians. Maskačkas Spēlmaņi play and sing together since 1995. At this time they are seven participants, leader of the group is Ansis Ataols Bērziņš. In their repertoire, there are original songs from different parts of Latvia, played on various instruments (squeeze-box, violin, zither, flute, bag-pipe, bass, psaltery, drums, saw and others), and, of course, dances. Generally Maskačkas Spēlmaņi try to play in ethnographic manner, like country musicians of Latvia are played more than hundred years ago. http://maskacka.folklora.lv User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
