Mary Jane Lamond (born 1960) is a Canadian Celtic folk musician who performs traditional Canadian Gaelic folk songs from Cape Breton Island. Her music combines traditional and contemporary material. Lamond is known as the vocalist on the 1995 hit single "Sleepy Maggie" by Ashley MacIsaac feat. Mary Jane Lamond, and for her solo Top 40 hit "Horo Ghoid thu Nighean", the first single from her 1997 album Suas e!. Her 2012 collaboration, as Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac, with fiddler Wendy MacIsaac, "Seinn", was named one of the top 10 folk and Americana albums of 2012 by National Public Radio in the United States Mary Jane Lamond is a sharer of songs, stories and spirit. This sharing has garnered Mary Jane numerous JUNO and East Coast Music award nominations, critical acclaim, and a worldwide audience. "Seinn" reflects the Nova Scotia tradition, and showcases traditional and original compositions. Some of the material was learned from the recordings of older Cape Breton singers and fiddlers, some songs were chosen from existing repertoires, and some were written specifically for this project. The record fuses Roots arrangements with a traditional presentation. On the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, the rich heritage of the region’s Scottish settlers was kept alive through song.
