The riffs are raw and powerful, with haunting melody over a storm of raw sonic shrapnel. Two guitars trade off sledgehammer riffs and driving melodic leads. Their name translates to "martyr's death" or "martyrdom and death" or "dead martyr". They were one of the earliest blackened crust groups to spring up from the hardcore scene. There are no blast beats incorporated into their music and all the black metal influences come from the vocals and riffing alone. All songs are based around d-beat galloping. The vocals approach can be described as a blackened bark in a hardcore delivery, somehow still managing to sound sorrowful. The riffing style is very melodic, melancholic and epic. It is built upon a penchant for tremolo picking melodies that are both catchy and memorable as well as raw and heavy in nature. Basically a black metal Tragedy. Martyrdöd's riffing style is based upon His Hero Is Gone's iconic "swarm of bees" approach to riffing. Their music also features intense and extensive bouts of heavy metal shredding plus displays of advanced guitar proficiency and technicality. Pontus is perhaps one of the most interesting guitarists in the hardcore scene. His style and riffs are incomparable. He is
