Mars Hill formed in Charlottetown, PEI back in 2003. They now call Montreal home having made the move in late October of 2006. The Mars Hill soundscape includes ethereal keyboards, thick bass lines, jazzy drums and climatic trumpet which gives the band a psychedelic 1967 Venice California vibe while the vocals drag the band's sound through Jack kerouac's New York and George Harrison's Rishikesh. Their first album 'Oxcart', was released in October 2004 and earned the band an ECMA nomination for Alternative Recording of the Year at the 2005 ECMA awards in Sydney NS. Their second album, "Fate Chance Luck Dance", was released in April 2006. The new CD was recorded over five days at historic St Paul's Anglican Church in Charlottetown November 2005. The band was also able to utilize the beautiful Baldwin Grand Piano at the church for their new recording. "Fate Chance Luck Dance" recieved a 2006 P.E.I. Music Award for best Alternative recording, and has been nominated for two 2007 ECMA awards in the best Alternative recording and Urban single of the year categories.
