Mark with the Sea is the adopted moniker of folk/singer-songwriter Marc Oswin. Raised by a pack of wolves in the Himalayan mountains, Marc, or as he was first known, AAAAhhhhhwwwwwwwoooo, was discovered by a couple from Western Victoria honeymooning in the Trans-Himalayan region of Kashmir. Unable to have children of their own, the couple captured young Marc and returned to Australia with him stashed in their overhead luggage. Firstly teaching him to walk upright and to use his “inside” voice, the couple set about assimilating him into the Western/human culture. Being quite entrepreneurial, the couple, recognising Marc’s ability to howl in perfect pitch, saw the opportunity to mould him into an internationally famous hit-maker and watch the free money roll in. Schooled on the hooks of Hall & Oates, the balladry of Air Supply and playing Toto’s ‘Africa’ on repeat, Marc developed quickly into a songwriter of quality and had his first number one hit at the age of 7 in 1986, penning the Australian anthem ‘You’re the Voice’ for then little known singer Johnny Farnham. As we’ve learnt from history, with early successes come pressures, excesses and expectations. With his adopted parents and the Farnham management team driving Marc to churn out more hits, he began to rebel. His life spiralled into a blur of beautiful models, fast cars, Ballarat starlets, alcohol and Macaulay Culkin. It was at an infamous Lydiard St party, when Marc first met Supermodel and future GF Miranda Ke
