Artist
For many years, Mariolina Zitta has been researching natural sounds and creating performances with sonorous stones and many other objects of nature at prehistoric sites, natural parks, caves, and theatres. In addition, she has created educational programs and sound lab experiences for school children, introducing them to the roots of human music making. She has also been a student of voice for years, following the "Functional Voice Method" of Gisela Rohmert. Her first CD, "Perle di grotta" (cave pearls), was focused on the sounds of stalactites, recorded in Italian caves that are not accessible to tourists. Her second CD, "Concert for Bats, Voices and Natural Sounds", released by EarthEar, was also recorded largely in caves, including more voice and primitive musical instruments, and is a sonorous response to the sounds of bats, as recorded by William Gannon of the University of New Mexico.
