Artist
Mario Cesa was born in Avellino, where he lives and works. He studied piano and composition at Naples' Conservatory and followed masterclasses on compositions with Luigi Nono and on musical dialectics in HUngary and Holland. He regularly gives lectures on contemporary music at universities in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. Dedicated to the folk music of the area around Avellino, he transcribed popular tunes of his motherland, ma his interests are mainly focused in composition: his poetics concern the restoration of collective rituals and 'Feast' sounds as typical of popular culture. Since 1969 he has been composing more than 100 works, ranging from solos to orchestral. He published with Edipan, Berben, Stradivarius, Rugginenti and Mnemes while his works appear on CD issued by Arts, Rainbow, Edipan and Stradivarius. Several books are about his poetics. His works have been performed at Biennale di Venezia, at Carnegie Hall in New York, in Spain, France, Belgium. Argentina (Teatro Colon), Germany (Muchen Gasteig), Mexico, Australia, Canada, Brazil, China and broadcasted among others by RAI, Belgian VRT. Such names as Bruno canino, Carin Levine, Federico Mondelci, Ciro Scarponi regularly play his music.
