Marina Shmotova was Born in 1959 in Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia. After she had left the Irkutsk College of Arts with a specialization "pianist", she continued her studies in Moscow. In 1985 she graduated from the Gnessin Music Academy where she studied composition under Nikolai Peiko. From 1990 to 1997 Marina Shmotova took an active part in masterclasss on composition held by Sergey Berinsky.
