Latin rock band Maria Fatal, established by Cesar Hernandez and the Ramirez brothers — Fernando, Ernesto, and Gabriel — emerged as a pioneering presence in the rock en español scene of Los Angeles in the early '90s. Their journey began on the vibrant club circuit of Los Angeles City, eventually leading them to México, where they teamed up with bassist Jose Alonso. Their debut, a self-titled album released under San Francisco-based Aztlán Records, marked the beginning of their ascent. That very year, their participation in Austin's South by Southwest Music Seminar coincided with their song "Portate Mal" making waves on the Latin charts. In 1996, the album Pasiones, Torturas y Otros was brought to life under the production expertise of Jim Mankey and Johnette Napolitano. The following year saw Maria Fatal contributing to the Aztlán Alternativo compilation, with standout tracks including "Silicon," "Antes," "Por Ella," and "Las Aves." They also ventured into covering the Cure's "10:15 Saturday Night" for the album Tributo a The Cure, released by the Latin division of WEA. Embracing independence, the band established MoFo Records, releasing Dermis in 2001. The creative force behind Maria Fatal, Cesar Hernandez, has continued to evolve artistically, leading to the emergence of ET3RNA.
