The "hip guru of jazz-Indian fusion," Boston-based composer, pianist and educator Marc Rossi's music has been described as "high energy, high concept and high culture” A longtime student of traditional Indian music, Rossi's compositions transcend genre, exploring the intersection of Eastern and Western music, seamlessly melding progressive jazz with classical Indian scales and modes. Rossi’s ambitious genre-transcending career and inclusive compositions led Down Beat magazine to call him "one of the dynamic few whose musical and cultural awareness travels exponentially in many different directions." A versatile contemporary classical and jazz composer, pianist and educator, Rossi has been a vital part of Boston's rich music scene since the early 1980’s. Rossi is currently a full-time Professor of Piano and Jazz Composition at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, a position he's held since 1989. The Marc Rossi Group released its first recording We Must Continue (MMC Recordings) in 1996. The 2008 release Hidden Mandala, featuring contributions from Indian musicians, saw positive reception from jazz critics, including a "Pick of the Month" selection and 94/100 rating from the reputable Jazz.com, one of their highest. Rossi's latest effort, Mantra Revealed, was released in January of 2012 by Innova Recordings. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
