Marc Neikrug (* September 24 1946 in New York City ) is an American composer and pianist. The son of the cellist and music educator George Neikrug studied in Los Angeles piano and music theory, and from 1964 to 1968 at the Academy of Music in Detmold composition with Gislher adhesive . In Tanglewood he took courses with Gunther Schuller and 1972 he was composer in residence at the Marlboro Music School and Festival under the direction of Rudolf Serkin . He also was a piano student of Stefan Askenase . From the mid-1970s Neikrug came a duo of Pinchas Zukerman on. Since 1998 he has been artistic director of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival . His career as a composer began in 1966 with a piano concert. He became famous for his musical theater piece Through Roses (1980). The work commissioned by the New York 92nd Street Y tells the story of a violinist, the Auschwitz survived. It has been translated into eleven languages ​​and experienced over 500 performances in fifteen countries. It was the subject of a documentary film by Christopher Nupen and was founded in 1997 by Jürgen Flimm with Maximilian Schell filmed as a speaker. In 1988, the Los Alamos opera was premiered at the Berlin Festival, commissioned by the Deutsche Oper Berlin . The American premiere took place at the Aspen Music Festival and School instead.
