about

Mandrax Icon was born amidst the summer of 2006, in the south lands of Portugal. It was created by Márcio da Cunha, whose intentions were to create a Psychedelic Rock band, but, due to the lack of musicians interested in contributing, began recording everything by himself. A demo named "Epiphany in Patmos" was recorded and resulted on invitations for live gigs, some radio airplay and contacts from record labels, still, nullified by the lack of a supporting band. After several failed attempts of getting people to play with, Márcio da Cunha decided to take the moniker as a pseudonym for himself, and the music slowly morphed into a blend of old school fingerpicking folk/blues in the style of John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Mississipi John Hurt mixed with some contemporary influences like Six Organs of Admittance, The Tallest Man on Earth and Jonathan Wilson. "Mary Climbed The Ladder For The Sun", the first full lenght, is to be released this year by Nostril Records.
