#1 tribal drum-and-percussion ensemble from Corpus Christi, Texas #2 ethno-triphop improvisational band from Brno, Czech rep #3 dubstep producer from Wilmington, North Carolina Makak was a tribal drum-and-percussion ensemble from Corpus Christi, Texas, which played together from 1993 until 1996. They were known for their highly energetic, participatory, and trance-inducing primitive drum stylings. Makak was probably best in a party setting, in which the band and partygoers were not separate. Children were usually the first to break the conventional band/audience boundary, and as the party would progress, more and more "audience" members were drawn into the tribal fold. For more conventional band performances, regular band members Keith Rowley, Keith Krause, and Gregg Willman were often joined by special guests, such as James Arriaga, Alberto Duran, and Greg Spayd.
