From Testify, their first release in 1998, Mains Ignition have always straddled the Soul / Boogaloo of their original PPQ roots with the homo erotic Electro Punk of today's eclectic Sega Mullet scene. An easy job for the original Jazz Mavericks and Renegade Poppers. Their first album Sparky's Bomb School (2000 PPQ) earned such enviable plaudits as: "Sample heaven, modern classic, must have, quite perfect." (Loaded) "Nice'n'sleazy", "Rude" (Esquire) Mains then disappeared briefly into the night to regenerate and regroup, swooping in unannounced like silent assassins on a variety of compilation albums from Acid Jazz to Dope on Plastic before heralding in a new age with the Turn On LP on Tummy Touch in 2002. "It's like being trapped in Space Invaders." (Record Collector) "It's the strobed-out kind of deep-pile groovery that'd encourage even the most conservative listeners to get down on the nearest sheepskin rug." (NME) The Turn On album and singles like Swedish Girls, were the result of Mains Ignition developing from the DJ based group of Sparky's Bomb School to a live band. Well received live XFM and London dates, and a support on Pulp's Farewell Tour soon beckoned for Mains, as did James Mullord (pre Babyshambles), a friend and working at 1234 records, who became their manager. Easy to look at yet so hard to define, having enveloped in their warm embrace over the years artists and collaborators as diverse as Tom Vek, Objects of Desire, Towers of London, The Libertine
