Macumbista is the alter-ego of Berlin-based American sound artist Derek Holzer. This project explores the deep drones, non-linear distortion and microsonic events produced by modular synthesizers and other analog electronics (often self-made) chained together to create complex intermodulations. Field recordings, organs, bells, gongs, bones and other found objects often find their place in the mix as well, providing an organic counterpoint to the pure electronic sounds.
