MacEdward is the songwriting and recording name for Glen Engel-Cox (keyboards), typically in partnership with Matthew Cutter (vocals/rhythm guitar). Originally called The Semiotics, the band began in 2006 practicing and recording in Silver Spring and Baltimore, Maryland along with Blake Stenning (bassist/lead guitar) and Howard Motteler (drums). The Semiotics played one public show in 2007 (videos of which can be found on YouTube) before Glen moved to Malaysia that summer. A name change, necessary because there were at least two other bands using the previous name, occurred in 2010 to correspond with the first official release of one of their songs as part of a RateYourMusic cover compilation.
