Artist
The artist mntY, Justin Mysza, hails from the metro Detroit area. As a founding member of Detroit's techno-industrial act HAL and the electronica cooperative the Nineteen Point Five Collective, mntY has helped to shape the contemporary digital underground in that city, and the midwest in general. Known for his hooky licks and groovy rhythms (he plays a mean bass guitar as well), his songs are both distinctive and ephemeral. He is quite prolific, releasing the majority of his music for free via the internet. This approach also avoids the pitfalls of sample clearance and legality so profuse in sample-based music. mntY has also operated under the name Goink, releasing a number of EPs and also contributing to the soundtrack to Get the Hell Out of Hamtown, and independent film set in the Detroit suburb of Hamtramck, Michigan.
