M. Walking on the Water is a German band from Krefeld. They described their genre as "short-distance-psycho-folk" in the beginning; by the time their last album was released, it had slowly changed to "long-distance-meta-pop". M. Walking on the Water was founded 1985 by Markus Maria Jansen and Mike Pelzer using rhytmmachines. After a while their line-up was enriched by Joshua Jankowitz and Ulrich Kisters. They soon started doing live-performances in unexpected places in the public. As their popularity grows and after winning the Ruhr-Rock-Festival, they release their first single "Party in the Cemetary" on their own. The single has been a great success and soon afterwards they released their first self-titled album under the Fuego independent label. Their popularity grew and their live performances were highly appreciated by the dancing public. The Goethe-Institut hired them twice for tours through Äthiopia, Tansania, Kenia, Madagascar, Sudan, Kasachstan, Usbekistan, Tukmenistan, Kirgistan and Tadschikistan. During their (so far) 11 years of musical carreer they have tried a lot of different styles: rough, folky, slow, fast, waltz, electro-pop and cover songs (Pictures of an Exhibitionist). Some of their recordings were done in Markus' living room (Wood), some in a lonely cottage in Lousiana (La Louisianne). After seven albums, two EPs, several singles and eleven years of music, M.
