Mörk Gryning is a melodic black metal/progressive black metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1993, dissolved in 2005, and reformed in 2016. Sweden's Mörk Gryning, meaning "dark dawn," was formed in the early 1990s by the multi-talented duo of Goth (guitars, bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Draakh Kimera (vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums), who recorded their complex black metal on 1995's Tusen år har gått... and 1997's Return Fire. In 2001, they released their third full-length, Maelstrom Chaos. Continuing with the aid of guitarist Avatar, bassist Fredrik Boëthius, and drummer Carl-Gustaf Bäckström, the album's grand sonic vision did not disappoint fans. With 2003's equally diverse fourth effort, Pieces of Primal Expressionism, Mörk Gryning returned to a smaller lineup, with only Aeon (synths, mellotron) added for support. Goth dissolved the band in early 2005 due to a lack of interest in extreme metal. However, the band returned to complete their final self-titled album, after which they were put to rest. In 2016, the band announced their reformation, and a four-song live EP, "Live at Kraken," was released in 2018. In early 2020, the band announced a record deal with French label Season of Mist. A new full-length album entitled "Hinsides vrede" was scheduled for release on October 23, 2020.
