Lubomir Panayotov Pipkov was a Bulgarian composer. Born on September 6, 1904 in Lovech, in the family of Panaiot Pipkov, he made his first musical compositions in 1918. Since 1919 he studied at the School of Music in Sofia in the piano class with Professor Heinrich Wiesner and Ivan Torchanov. Pipkov wrote the first anthem of PFC Levski in 1921, when he was only 16 years old. In 1923 he wrote "22 Variations for Piano." He moved to Paris in 1926 where he studied at the École normale de musique: composition with Paul Dukas, piano with Yvonne Lefebure. During these years he wrote "Piano Trio", "Sonata for Violin and Piano" songs "miller", "Love porter", the ballad "Riders" (1929) and "First Quartet '' (1928). He graduated with honors and prize (1932). After returning to Bulgaria he worked as an accompanist, chorus master and director of the Sofia National Opera. Between 1932 - 1937, he wrote the opera "Yana's Nine Brothers" - the first Bulgarian folk musical drama based on a ballad about the young maid Yana mourning the fate of her nine brothers killed by the Ottomans. In 1934 Pipkov wrote the vocal-symphonic poem "Wedding" based on the title poem by Nikola Furnadzhiev that recreates the events of the antifascist September uprising. In 1940 his "First Heroic Symphony" dedicated to the heroes of the Civil War in Spain was composed with his second opera "Momchil" to follow shortly after.
