Artist
Lynden David Hall (7 May 1974 β 14 February 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, arranger, and record producer associated with the late 1990s neo soul movement. In 1999, he became the first UK performer voted "Best Male Artist" by the readers of Britain's Blues & Soul magazine. His debut album, "Medicine 4 My Pain," included the UK hit singles "Do I Qualify" and "Sexy Cinderella." Hall was born in Wandsworth, South London, England, and won the "best newcomer" award at the 1998 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards. While his early work gained attention among soul fans in the UK and internationally, he achieved broader recognition through remixes of his songs. In 2003, Hall appeared in the film "Love Actually" as the lead singer of the band performing the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" at a wedding. Two years later, he released his third studio album, "In Between Jobs," on an independent label. In October 2003, Hall was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He underwent a stem cell transplant in January 2005 and was in remission at the time of his death on 14 February 2006, aged 31, due to complications from the procedure. Shortly before his death, in November 2005, Hall and his wife organized the "Lynden's Wish" concert at London's Jazz CafΓ© to support others suffering from illness.
