From the first stirrings of album opener “Alaska,” which shimmers to life from stillness, Byrd sets the stage for a record that exhibits both an uncommonly sharp perception of others and unflinchingly honest introspection. A classically trained singer, Byrd has worked as a special needs educator for the past sixteen years and began writing music for Lumenette driven by a need to bring her poetry, full of wonder, love, angst, and fears, to life. On All Around My Head, Byrd faces down those fears, acknowledging the darkness that agitates the corners of the mind and shedding light into it.
