Artist
Luigi Otto (fl. c. 1750) was a prominent Italian composer. Only one of his works remain, a concerto. Luigi Otto is a largely unknown musical genius. So far, it has not even been possible to determine his dates of birth or death. Accordingly, neither is there any information on his life's work. Other than in the Minter Collection, the original manuscript of his Trumpet Concerto has also been found in the collection of the Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt. This of course points to the fact that Otto was entirely well known in his day and must have been popular - otherwise how could there have been copies of his works in England, Germany and Holland? "...Both the concertos (Laue and Otto) will be a delightful alternative and an important stepping-stone to the Haydn/Hummel axis that has dominated the trumpet-concerto repertoire for so long.
