Lucas & Friends is a found sound project solely perpetrated by Dan Hicks, better known as Pea Hix from bands such as Optiganally Yours or Tit Wrench. Chiefly comprised of recordings picked up in second hand stores, ranging from audio tapes to old home-recorded vinyls, Hix himself appears on the album only as instrumental accompaniment to songs recorded by unknown participants. The tracks themselves range from groups of people singing old standards, to a fictional newscast performed by a child and even includes a series of tracks recorded by what seems to be a few mouthy children. Described as a "sonic archaeology project" by Hix himself, the sole release of Lucas & Friends defies categorisation in any traditional musical sense. It stands as a cross section of moments perhaps considered private (as demonstrated by a track during which two audio love letters play in each speaker) laid bare in a collage, occasionally accompanied by Hix's instrumentation when the anonymous participants felt compelled to sing.
