Artist
Self-taught musician Pat Kearns of Portland, Oregon left his garage band Big Jim to pursue a solo career that we now acknowledge as Love Is Not Enough. The first album, "This Black Heart Is Going To Break," was recorded in the comfort of his own Studio 13. The second album, "Blue Skies For Black Hearts," was not originally intended to be the sophomore effort. Kearns had collaborated with Kelly Simmons from Man Of The Year and Michael Lewis from The Very Foundation to produce the as-yet unreleased album "Turn The Light Out." With Lewis scheduled to tour with Man Of The Year and Simmons off hanging out on vacation, the band was set release "Turn The Lights Out" until confronted with an unexpected dilemma. The combination of irreconcilable differences Kearns had with both his girlfriend and drummer catapulted the band's status into a realm of inauspicious uncertainty. But Kearns honed his song-writing skills during this time of woe and enlisted his friend Terry Six of the Nice Boys to assist in creating a completely different album courtesy of Studio 13. Recording 6 tracks in a span of 3 days, Kearns later met up with some other musician friends, not the least of them Simmons and Lewis, who returned to help out on a whole new album, and released the lovely little uplifting gem on King of Hearts records in 2006.
