(Not to be confused with Los Auténticos Decadentes, from Argentina) Los Autenticos (English: 'The Authentic') was a short-lived pop/rock band from Castellón known by fans as the 'Spanish Beatles' for its layered melodic sound. The group had massive local success in parts of Spain during the 80s. The members were the brothers Peter and Miguel Angel Villanueva, Juan Antonio Morcillo, and Jesus Gimeno. They released their debut album in November 1981 after the success of their four singles on Spain's Radio 3. A series of popular concerts followed, in particularly at Sala El Sol de Madrid. However, they were unable to match their initial appeal and folded soon afterward. Frontman Miguel Angel later managed his own popular record store 'Discos Medicinales' and worked in several other local bands. The band is perhaps best known internationally for their 1981 single "La estrella" (English: "The star"), an example of finely crafted pop songwriting that has as much resonance today as thirty years ago.
