Lorin Wey was born on April 3, 1990 in Berne, Switzerland, to an American-Swiss musician couple, Peggy Wey-Ervin and Markus Wey. In 1994, he moved to Vienna, where his older brother, Terry, joined the Vienna Choir Boys. Lorin entered the kindergarten of the Vienna Choir Boys, and continued on to their primary school. In 1999, Lorin played the boy Mozart in a Japanese film, with the conductor Charles Dutoit as Father Mozart. He was soprano soloist in Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols in Vienna and Bratislava. In the Swiss first performance of the oratorio Abraham by Carl Amand Mangold in Berne and Thun in January 2001, Lorin sang the role of Isaac. In various Christmas concerts he sang Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, KV 339 and Sub tuum praesidium, KV198, Handel’s He shall feed his flock from the "Messiah", and Schubert’s Salve Regina in F, Op.47. In 2002, Lorin was soprano soloist in two concerts of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, performed with Norman Shetler in the Brahmssaal of the Vienna Musikverein, and sang Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate in the Haydn Festival at Schloss Esterhazy in Eisenstadt. In June and July, he sang and acted the role of Kurt in The Sound of Music on a tour of Japan. Lorin’s operatic roles include Master Cheney in the contemporary opera Thomas Chatterton by Matthias Pintscher in the Vienna Volksoper (2000), Sam in The Little Sweep by Benjamin Britten (2001), and Miles in The Turn of the Screw, also by Britten, in the Opera Graz (2002).
