Long Way Blues was founded in 1976 by frontman Willem van Houten, who in the early years had guitar lessons from the then-famous guitarist Ted Oberg of Livin’ Blues. He decided to form The Long Way Blues band with a few friends. In 1978, a number of performances were given in the Netherlands with the legendary English band The Pretty Things. American blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree invited the band to play a few songs with him at the Alkmaar Blues Festival in 1979, ‘with the white young man’ as he said at the time. The years followed with many performances in youth centers, pubs, and festivals throughout the Netherlands. After a number of demo recordings, Long Way Blues contributed to a compilation LP, Blue fits you (Munich Records), in 1987. After a break from 1988 to 1999, the band made a comeback. Since then, Long Way Blues has been back on stage as if the band had never been away, and the heartfelt blues is sprinkled over the enthusiastic audience just like in the old days. Long Way Blues is also no stranger to blues festivals. Long Way Blues draws from a solid repertoire of well-known blues classics, inspired by Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Freddy King, Peter Green, and many other greats. In addition, Long Way Blues plays a considerable amount of original work with the characteristic LWB sound. Every song contains the necessary life experience, and you can hear it immediately!
