Chicago-based avant-garde drone trio Locrian do fine work on their own, but they’re still probably best-known for their collaborations with bands like Horseback and Mammifer. Now they’ve teamed with German visual artist and experimental composer Christoph Heemann (H.N.A.S., Current 93, Jim O’Rourke) for a self-titled Locrian & Christoph Heemann album of pure ambient: Sound is presented in waves and layers, rising and retreating with the rhythm and force of the tide, calm, desolate, and cold as a midnight desert.
