Lluís Claret was born in 1951 in the Principality of Andorra, to exiled Catalonian parents. He started his musical studies at nine years of age. He moved to Barcelona in 1964 where he excelled at the Conservatori del Liceu and received tuition from Enric Casals (Pau Casals's brother) who was his main cello professor.
