Glacial Records is proud to announce the upcoming vinyl and digital release of Lives of the Obscure’s Deathfête EP. Deathfête was tracked, mixed, and mastered at Alan Douches’ West West Side studio in Newburgh, New York and features performances by members of Park Ranger, Joshua, and the Nervous Band. With this release, the band’s first, Lives of the Obscure appears out of the ether with a mature and original sound that freshly combines the nuanced dark pop of XTC with the edge and angularity of the Modest Mouse variety. The tracks (two on vinyl; three if you prefer intangibility) convey nerves and subtlety, all through the lens of a unique and timely vision. “Deathfête is the result of several consecutive failures,” says Haines, Lives of the Obscure’s frontman and co-founder of Glacial. “Two abandoned novels, a couple hundred poems, three demoed EPs. I'll be surprised if the pressing plant doesn't burn down.” The 7" will be released on November 24th, 2012. Lives of the Obscure began inauspiciously as a project unabashedly influenced by Guided by Voices’ early approach. Haines recorded four or five song ideas back to back on the same track, indulging in the lo-fi, high-impact pop ideal that Pollard explores so ceaselessly. The songs, however, developed a feel all their own, influenced as much by Haines’ tastes in bands like Joan of Arc and the Talking Heads as by his early experiences in hardcore and punk.
