Little Jerry and the Monotones is a fictional rock and roll group made up of Muppets that appears on the American television series Sesame Street. The band first appeared in 1970. The characters are Little Jerry, the frontman, backed by Big Jeffy and the Lavender and Pumpkin Anything Muppets-- usually known as Chrissy and Rockin' Richard. The group dressed in stereotypical 'hippie' clothes of the period, but they sang in a retro/nostalgia musical style similar to Sha Na Na and Showaddywaddy. Technicians Jerry Nelson, Jeff Moss, Richard Hunt, and Christopher Cerf provided the vocals and operated the Muppets. Some of their best known songs are "Mad" and "Telephone Rock". The band's name may be a reference to the real-life doo wop group The Monotones, which created the 50s hit single "(Who Wrote) The Book of Love".
