about

Linsey Alexander (born in Holly Springs, Mississippi, on 23 July 1942; died 22 February 2025) was an American blues songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist remembered for being a fixture in clubs on Chicago's North Side for nearly two decades and playing with numerous blues musicians including Buddy Guy, A.C. Reed, Magic Slim, and B.B. King. On June 8, 2014, Alexander was inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame at the blues club Buddy Guy's Legends. Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, his first guitar - a gift from a family friend who played on the front stoop of his home in Memphis - was never retrieved from the pawn shop where he left it. Using the money to help pay his way to Chicago, he went on to play a variety of Gibson and Fender guitars, and since 1959, Alexander worked on perfecting the art of entertainment blues for the sheer and simple pleasure of it. While having played with B.B.King, Bobby Rush, Buddy Guy, Little Milton, Magic Slim Johnnie Taylor, A.C.Reed, Larry McCray, Bither Smith, John Primer, Otis Clay, Eddie Clearwater and other great blues performers, Alexander remained resolutely true to his own style. His first cds release, Someone’s Cookin' In My Kitchen, My Days Are So Long and his subsequent release If You Ain't Got It is a compilation of original Blues and R&B tunes. On June 8, 2014, Alexander was inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame at the blues club Buddy Guy's Legends. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA
