Lilly Marie Scott is a singer-songwriter from Colorado. She was born May 16th, 1989. She was a semifinalist on season 9 of American Idol. Born in Houston, Texas, her family moved to Colorado when she was four. There she began taking piano lessons at 7 years old and eventually started studying the guitar at 12. She participated in several traveling choirs as a child and has received formal singing training her whole life. Her influences include The Beatles, Animal Collective, Devendra Banhart, Animal Collective, John Denver, and unsigned/independent artists. Her band Varlet formed in 2005 and originally started with just her and her brother, David Scott. The band went through several lineup changes and is now currently performing under a more bluegrass tone all across the nation. The band uses all kinds of instruments from Moog to melodica to mandolin. Lilly showcases her indie-folk original music and dedicated fans have had the privilege of listening to her songwriting shape and develop over the years. Lilly had respectable run on American Idol and was one of the major upsets of the season when she was the 13th contestant eliminated on March 11, 2010.
