Artist
Douglas Lilburn (1915-2001) was a New Zealand composer. He was born in Wanganui, on the North Island. He studied with English pastoralist composer Ralph Vaughn Williams in London and had various successes abroad and in New Zealand with works for acoustic instruments and classical forms. In the early 1960's he established New Zealand's first electronic music studio at Victoria University. Much of his work from the next two decade was devoted to experimenting with the electronic medium. Mr. Lilburn had a great love of the New Zealand landscape and in turn it is the beauty of this landscape with which, in particular, his electronic music is imbued.
