Artist
Lifting Gear Engineer aka Rob Morgan, hails from Swansea, South Wales. He started the project in 1998, when a college course introduced him to electronic sequencers and synths. Also playing keyboards in Port Talbot band Fillmore, LGE began sending out demos to local press and labels which quickly generated attention. His first release was an appearance on Boobytrap Records' 'A Step In The Left Direction', featuring various Welsh related artists such as Brave Captain and Evils. He subsequently developed his live set, using hardware based setups of live synths, sequencers and samplers. During one of many gigs in South Wales, he was witnessed by Dan Haines, head honcho at Machine Records, a Cardiff based electronic label. The result of this meeting was the inclusion on Metal Machine Music 2, a compilation of Machine Records' artists. This was quickly followed by his first full-length release, 'Brain Holiday'. The album was picked up by local and national radio such as Radio 1 and The Selector to much acclaim. The next release came in the form of the 'Fridges of Nature' EP. accompanied by various incendary live sets including appearances at Machine's Terminal nights in Cardiff. The second LP, 'Jumble Heads' was released in 2007. At this time Morgan introduced his latest project, Pipeworks, a more experimental, guitar based sound.
