The mother dies giving birth to the child, but he is not indebted to her nor separate from her, for he is nothing but her will to live manifested, yet bound to disappear just like her, to submit to her and his own will to die.

Liesl's world is not without contradiction, but it is a world self-resolved, made in pure innocence but not by perfection. Was this why they called it a mistake?
